RICHARD LINKLATER’S INDIE FILM, SLACKER SELECTED FOR 2011 SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL SCREENING

Posted in top story

The Sundance Institute has announced a new “Collectors Circle” dedicated to film preservation this year. Among the selections f0r 2011 is Richard Linklater’s seminal Indie Film, Slacker.

The institute, which was originally set up to preserve and restore independent films, has created the Collector’s Circle which enables supporters to directly impact the acquisition and preservation process.  Linklater’s Slacker (1991) is a perfect fit for the circle. The  uniquely structured and seemingly plotless film following a single day in the life of an ensemble of mostly twenty-something bohemians, social outcasts and misfits and misfits in Austin, TX, launched Linklater’s career (Dazed and Confused, Waking Life, Before Sunset) and has inspired the style of countless other indie directors.

The Egyptian Theater in Park City will screen the film on Monday, January 24 followed by a  Q&A with Linklater, hosted by Festival Director John Cooper, along with other special guests. The Sundance Film Festival will run January 20-30, 2010 in Park City, Salt Lake City, Ogden, and Sundance, Utah. Tickets are available at http://www.sundance.org/festival/tickets
