NEW VIDEO FROM CHROMEO: HOT MESS

Chromeo continues on their path toward pop-world adoration and domination with this addition to their long track record of compelling music videos. “Hot Mess”, the latest video for their Atlantic Records debut album, “Business Casual”, is a hilarious and lascivious narrative starring Dave and Pee as the last two male cops in an all female precinct that is highly aestheticized, beautifully shot, reminiscent of 70s French erotic cinema but with an American, Police Academy twist (synchronized swimming, policewoman dance routines, bodybuilders, aerial crane shots, dozens of breathtaking models). It’s unabashedly retro yet absurdly modern. Watch the video below:

NEW VIDEO FROM HOT CHIP: I FEEL BETTER (FEAT. BONNIE PRINCE BILLY)

Feel immediately better by watching this new video from British nerd synth band Hot Chip for “I feel Better” featuring alt folk singer Bonnie Prince Billy (Will Oldham).  Bonnie Prince Billy teamed up with the band for this duet version of “I Feel Better” back in March which finally gets the full nerded out video treatment it deserves courtesy of Sam Lawlor.

FREE MP3: ACRYLICS: NIGHTWATCH

Download the first new track “Nightwatch” from NYC indie pop band Acrylics‘ forthcoming LP Lives and Treasure below. Acrylics conjure a real crystallized 70’s  pop infused sound (think Linda Ronstadt/Fleetwood Mac), formed around songwriters Molly Shea and Jason Klauber‘s vocal combo and layered in between some gentle synths and  sweet lap slide guitar. Give a listen:

NEW VIDEO FROM SHIT ROBOT: TAKE ‘EM UP

DFA label mate and LCD Soundsystem’s Nancy Whang lends her vocal stylings and jam pants to  Shit Robot’s (Marcus Lambkin) single “Take ‘Em Up” off their debut album Cradle to the Rave. Clicks and beeps from Ireland mixed with some new wave synthy nostalgia to keep your toe dragging.  Watch the video below:

NEW VIDEO FROM THE TALLEST MAN ON EARTH: LOVE IS ALL

The new video for “Love is All” (from the album The Wild Hunt), features vintage Super 8 footage compiled by director Johan Stolpe. So often The Tallest Man on Earth’s music is said to be informed by the American landscape, but to watch the video for “Love is All” is to look deeply into those preconceptions and have the images display another side of Kristian Matsson’s origin.

The new five-song EP by The Tallest Man on Earth, Sometimes the Blues Is Just a Passing Bird, will be available at all digital and retail outlets this coming Tuesday, November 9th, in North America (8th in the UK). You can download the single “Like the Wheel” here.

MIA MAKES CAMEO IN NEW HOLLYWOOD HOLT VIDEO

MIA makes an appearance in the new video for Hollywood Holt’s “La La La Freestyle”. Red plastic cups and A-list cameos go hand in hand, apparently. Hollywood Holt has an album slated for release next year on Chocolate Industries. Check out the video below:

NEW VIDEO FROM A CLASSIC EDUCATION: I LOST TIME

Discosalt Video of the Week 10/25/10: Remember Sammy Jankis. Don’t let A Classic Education’s video  for  “I Lost Time” pass you by.  The song  about growing up, being alone and feeling like you have lost time was  inspired by the life of Clive Wearing; a British musicologist who suffered from “Memento Syndrome”. A condition of both acute and  long-lasting amnesia which rendered Wearing unable to make new memories, spending every day ‘waking up’ every 20 seconds. In the video, director Enrico Boccioletti,  plays with the idea of losing time, hashing together a collage of old images and bleeding effects that play out like a faded memory. Now… where was I? hmm, I don’t feel drunk.

MP3 AND NEW VIDEO FROM WARPAINT: UNDERTOW

Warpaint’s official video for “Undertow” is the directorial debut from indie girl hottie Shannyn Sossamon (The Rules of Attraction, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang).  Shannon, who briefly played drums with the band, is also sister to Bassist Jenny Lee. Grab the free track and watch the video below:

NEW VIDEO FROM WOLF PARADE: YULIA

Ground control to Wolf Parade. In the new Scott Coffey directed video for the  cinematic “Yulia” off  Wolf Parade’s Expo 86, a Soviet astronaut on a secret black mission is rocketed into space leaving behind a woman he may never see again.  It’s sort of a Major Tom, Cold War conspiracy style with a nod to Russian cinema. In the song, the protagonist is in a (metaphorical) space away from a woman named Yulia, but is he lost in space forever? Watch the video.

“During the Cold War at the beginning of the Space Age, the Soviet Union was rumored to have two space programs – one a public program, the other a secret ‘black’ one, in which dangerous and sometimes downright suicidal missions were attempted. Cosmonauts would be shot into orbit without the means or resources to get them home, stranded in an expanding orbit around earth, slowly pulling away, frozen in space for eternity. I wanted to create a kind of formal and slightly nostalgic vibe. At the same time, I wanted it to feel untethered to an exact era — not specifically in the past. I shot in Portland Oregon and a little in Romania and I was really inspired by Russian cinema and Communist propaganda posters. It was an ambitious idea and I’m really stoked thatDeschutes Brewery and North were able to help support the production of this video for Wolf Parade’s great song, Yulia.”Scott Coffey

NEW VIDEO FROM BEST COAST: BOYFRIEND

Southern Cali duo Best Coast serve up some much needed sun drenched pop stylings in their new video for “Boyfriend”, directed by Taylor Cohen.  In the video, frontwoman Bethany Cosentino and band mate Bobb Bruno gig a Quinceañera Party and provide the soundtrack for  a budding sweet fifteen year old romance.  Anyone else have a crush on Bethany or want tacos now?

NEW VIDEO FROM PVT: LIGHT UP BRIGHT FIRES

PVT will release “Light Up Bright Fires” as a digital remix EP on Oct 19th – and have previously released a video for the track. The single, which is the second to be released from their album Church With No Magic, seethes with twisted synth sounds and ominous, shape-shifting vocals.

“Light Up Bright Fires” comes with a stunning video from director Alex Smith that you can watch at the link below…

On the last leg of their world tour having played to sell out crowds in the UK & Europe, PVT now head to the USA where they will perform a number of dates at CMJ and around the country. The band then go on to play several festivals in Australia…stay tuned for more tour announcements!

WE LISTEN FOR YOU PRESENTS: THE PASS @ PIANOS

Our friends at We Listen For You put together such an incredible show back in September, that Pianos has asked them to curate a full day following CMJ. This time the guys have outdone themselves with an incredible lineup. Starting at 2pm and running through 1 am, they’ve got Indian Rebound, Caveman, Modern Rivals, Hip Hatchet, Bell, The Seedy Seeds, Slow Animal, SOARS, Radical Dads, The Pass, and Sunglasses. At the September 11th show for The Pass, Radical Dads and Slow Animal, the door was double sold and the place was packed.

The entire lineup for the night is going to be one of the best all CMJ weekend, but one of our personal favorite bands, The Pass (who is taking the 11pm spot just before Sunglasses) will be one of the most exciting to see. The Pass recently released their debut album on sonaBLAST! Records and in conjunction with the release they have put together a witty video for the song Vultures. The video, conceptualized and directed by Zach Hart pays homage to 39 other music blogs (although not DiscoSalt). The Pass have never left a dance floor dry, so be prepared to dance, to sweat, and to be able to tell all your friends you were there.

NEW VIDEO FROM SHY CHILD: DARK DESTINY

New York’s Electro-pop duo Shy Child pick up the pieces of MGMT’s “Electric Feel”, conjuring Jay McInerney’s Bright Lights Big City on Liquid Love; a post-modern new wave  album drenched in enough pulsating 80’s  dance beats, lush synth and wispy vocals to make Michael J. Fox self-destruct in comfort. The bittersweet friendship ballad “Dark Destiny”, which comes as a cool-down from the more glitzy, higher energy tracks on the album, leaves us with crooner Pete Cafarella declaring “I’ll keep defending choices you’re making” in a way that is both strangely uplifting and sincere…and makes us want to keep defending choices Shy Child is making.  As to what the video has to do with all this, your guess is as good as mine but check it out below:

NEW VIDEO FROM LYRICS BORN: LIES X 3

Here is the first Lyrics Born video for his album coming next week.  The song is Lies x 3 and it shows him doing what he does better than any of his peers- not stay the same. I’m a huge fan of him and what’s he is about. Watch and spread if you care to.  KLF

NEW VIDEO FROM SUN AIRWAYS: PUT THE DAYS AWAY

Discosalt Video of The Week 10/17/10: Director Ricardo Rivera of KLIP Collective brings us a new video treatment for Sun Airway’s single “Put the Days Away” from the forthcoming album, Nocturne of Exploded Crystal Chandelier. Night has fallen upon Philadelphia, and our heroine is making her way through the streets on her bicycle. Something is wrong, and the sight of happy couples are certainly not helping. She arrives home, soaked from the rain and begins to put the day away. Her unconscious mind becomes animated for us, a gorgeous combination of visual projections previously seen for Sun Airway’s “Oh, Naoko,” “Infinity,” and “Waiting On You.”
