Mp3 – Tame Impala : Feels Like We Only Go Bachwards (Young Dreams Version)

After their recent support of Tame Impala on their European Tour, Young Dreams took what they saw to heart and covered their touring partner’s latest single, with a twist.

The aptly retitled ‘Feels Like We Only Go Bachwards’ is a sweetly harmonic tribute to composer Johan Sebastian Bach.

The ‘Feels Like We Only Go Backwards’ single package, with reworks by Young Dreams and Memory Tapes, will be available December 14th (AUS) / 17th (UK/EU) / 18th (USA).

Video – Levek : Black Mold Grow

Writer/Director, Michael Lawrence has created this intense and surreal short film for Levek’s “Black Mold Grow,”inspired by images of a “gauzy, transcendental view on a young woman’s struggle with her psyche.”

Video – Warm Myth : Working

Warm Myth (Kieran Adams and Casey Mecija) and director Jesse Yules present the new experimental video for “Working”. Yules skillfully animates the seductive rhythms and tempting lyrics of Warm Myth’s song with paint, origami and mirrors to create a visual collage.

MP3 – Tamaryn : I’m Gone

Tamaryn delivers on all of the promise of their debut LP The Waves and then some on their excellent new full-length Tender New Signs, a moving, achingly gorgeous widescreen evolution of the duo’s “sky-gazing” dream pop. Listen to the the track “I’m Gone” below. Tender New Signs is out on clear vinyl via Mexican Summer.

Video – Killer Mike : Reagan

The hyper-political R.A.P. Music track gets a hyper-political animated video.

Bob Dylan Subterranean Homesick Blues : A Hand Lettering Experience

Posted in top story

Inspired by Bob Dylan´s Subterranean Homesick Blues video, where he flips cards with the lyrics as the song plays, Leandro Senna decided to recreate those cards with handmade type.  There are 66 cards done in one month using only pencil, black tint pens and brushes. The challenge was not to use the computer, no retouching was allowed. Getting a letter wrong meant starting the page over. You can watch the original movie here

Album Stream – ANR : Tobe Hooper

ANR has just released TOBE HOOPER, a full-length Halloween album heavily dosed with wolves, zombies, serial killers and all sorts of eeriness to keep you up at night. It’s perfect for any and all Halloween parties / nights at home alone carving pumpkins in a leatherface mask.

Check it out on soundcloud

Among the best moments of the 14-track album are:
Waking The Dead“, the zombie’s national anthem,
Monster Mash feat. Jillian Mayer” a cover of the classic featuring emerging Miami star Jillian Mayer,
Chainsaw” a perfectly Halloween Ramones cover,
MS MR – Bones (ANR Version)” an electro remix that pushes the song to its scariest potential,
& “Willowy Eye” a beautifully dark, tragic love song

TOBE HOOPER is the bands tribute to a man of the same name, the director behind Texas Chainsaw Massacre. It goes without saying that ANR are huge horror nerds, and it shows in the dedicated approach they’ve taken to the album. Defying genre, they take wiz from Punk Rock to Future RnB, Hip-Hop to Musical Theater, Electro to Bluegrass and back again. TOBE HOOPER comes on the heels of PAT RILEY, a mixtape/album released in September, and the band is currently working on an LP due out 2013.

Video – Das Racist : Girl

Best Halloween costume of the week goes to the thirsty gentleman rocking the mullet in the official clip for Das Racist’s “Girl” produced by Blood Diamonds. Check below and spread around.

MP3 – Von Haze : Mother Mountain

Here’s a special Halloween treat from the dreary duo Von Haze. Download and stream their new track “Mother Mountain” –  a dark and hazy cut of minimal electro and creepy vocals, taken from their album Kar Dee Akk Ake which drops today on iTunes with physical due out 11/6 via Pendu Sound.

Video – M83 : Steve McQueen

M83 recently announce the release of their next single, “Steve McQueen”on November 27th. Celebrating this exhilarating track the band decided to draw from their biggest inspiration and support system-the fans themselves. Partnering with Genero.tvAnthony Gonzalez selected French Director Balthazar Auxietre and Animator Sylvain Derosne’s (who has also collaborated with Spike Jonze) unique vision of a world honoring the “power of childhood, an eagerness for life, and the kind of paradoxical energy you have when you grow up.”

Auxietre describes M83’s overall body of work as “…a sound of his own, made with a kind of “epic fragility”, something very visual, very atmospheric, which can bring powerful images and energy as a filmmaker.”

Video – Cold Specks : Hector

Posted in MUSIC, Music Video

Self-proclaimed as “doom soul”, the music of Cold Specks draws on folk and gospel elements, with a strong personal interpretation. At times it can be heavy and bleak, but the willful, raspy vocals of Al Spx offer an element of brightness. The weight of each track grows slowly and as her velvetly vocals hit your ears, you will instantly feel swathed in this warm blanket-like familiarity.

Tame Impala : Lonerism

Rating: 5/5 stars

Label: Modular

Another warm, swirling, psychedelic, sonic cruise with dizzying atmospheric guitar hooks, washing over both brash and vulnerable sounding moody vocals from Aussie rock outfit Tame Impala. Taking cues from Innerspeaker track “Solitude Is Bliss”,  Lonerism is an entire album about alienation and the power of one – what front-man Kevin Parker describes as “the idea of being someone who doesn’t feel part of the rest of the world”. Like Innerspeaker, there is comfort in this album’s nostalgia – a harmonic tribute to psychedelics pop past – with nods towards the Beatles, Hendrix and Floyd. But, Lonerism manages to ameliorate mere 60′s revisionist rock, and emerge intensely modern and new, with a sound quality only possible in 2012.  Both larger in scope and sound than it’s predecessors,  Lonerism drives it’s influences into an entirely new direction, making it the most immersive albums of the year.
