For Spike Jonze, LES staple and director of the new film “Where the Wild Things Are”( in theaters October 16), the lines between childhood and adulthood are always blurred. With a soundtrack composed almost entirely by Yeah Yeah Yeahs front woman Karen O, some dark thematic undertones and a cast of magical puppets, “Where the Wild Things Are” is “sure to appeal to the sensibilities of a certain cohort of urban young adults — the type who read comic-book novels and wear skateboard sneakers.”[NY Times Magazine] This October, the MoMA is jumping on the bandwagon and targeting the same demographic, hosting a mid-mid-career retrospective of Jonze’s work (titled “Spike Jonze: The First 80 Years“) taking place from October 8th-18th and then organized an event on October 15th that will involve skateboarding videos from the 1980’s to today. Featured, will be films from Jonze, a discussion with the director and an after party with a live performance by No Age. A month of skateboards and puppets…who wants to be an adult anyway?
