FIND THE SECRET SPOT: FREE LIVE SHOWS FROM PASSION PIT, THE BLACK KEYS, TING TINGS

Here’s a little treat for all the moms (and the rest of us) this weekend fiending for some free indie rock.  On Sunday, March 9 the mother of all holidays, will be one mother of a day with Ting Tings, The Black Keys and Passion Pit playing free live shows in New York City starting at 8 pm. That is, if you can find the secret location where they are playing. The whereabouts, have yet to be revealed and details are still very hush. You can, however, follow the bands on Facebook or check back with Discosalt for more details as they are available to us.

So what’s the rub? Well, the marketing wizards at Kin, which is a new windows-based phone, are sponsoring these free shows, along with two shows in San Fran featuring Yeasayer and N.E.R.D. & Asher Roth on Saturday, May 8th; a publicity ploy that, we admit, we have taken the bait for.  So, we get it, corporate sponsored rock shows suck. They can be soulless and counter-intuitive to everything rock n’ roll should represent. But my mom also thinks email is the devil and cell phones are destroying our planet. For better or for worse, change, like sh*t happens and Rock n’ Roll, unfortunately, isn’t exempt. So, if moving with the times means that Kin will fit our bill to see three really solid shows for free, then f*ck it. Lets just call it progress and enjoy the show.

Just keep your sunglasses on and run if you see any messages like: Obey, Consume, Conform, Stay Asleep, Marry and Reproduce, Watch Television, Sleep, No Imagination, Submit to Authority, This is your God…
