Grindhouse-esque new video from A Place To Bury Stranger

A Place To Bury Strangers have released a new video for their song “You Are The One.
Directing duo Matt Moroz & Tracy Maurice deliver a twisted nightmare in this grindhouse-esque clip produced by Greencard Pictures. Shot on 16mm film, their dark, experimental style expertly mirrors the mood of APTBS’s track and elevates the music video to a cinematic noir thriller. Moroz and Maurice’s creation recalls a 70s-era, B-movie that is definitley Not Safe For Work. The duo says, “We really loved the song. The video evoked something extremely dark, weird and disturbing.” In it, the viewer follows a mysterious figure as he visciously beats total strangers, leers at nubile young girls at an underground club, and initiates a blood-soaked make-out session.

NEW VIDEO FROM MIKE SNOW: THE NEXT CHAPTER IN THE JEAN NOEL STORY

In case you missed the chill-inducing new video for ‘The Wave’ (and next chapter in the Jean Noel story) from Miike Snow during SXSW, check it now on Noisey

The video is a continuation of a thread which began in their last video for “Paddling Out.” In that video, a group of unfortunates were abducted to space in an experiment to create a perfect human named Jean Noel. Following some pretty brutal chainsaw surgery, the video ended with Jean crashing to earth in a spaceship seemingly manned by classical-era twins. Both videos were directed by Swedish Director Andreas Nillson, who’s work includes MGMT and Fever Ray. Rumours the entire plot was cooked up after a real life after hours chain saw massacre are currently unconfirmed.

On Tuesday, March 20, Miike Snow will stop off in NYC at the Music Hall Of Williamsburg. Tickets are limited and Terminal 5 tickets holders have a limited pre-sale. General tickets are on-sale March 15th @ 12pm PST here:http://www.j.mp/ms-wburg-tickets

NEW BRETON RELEASE: OTHER PEOPLE’S PROBLEMS

Subversive art collective Breton are about to release their Album “Other People’s Problems” in the next week and along with that they have a small tour lined up in the UK.

As a bunch of film-makers who turned musicians in order to soundtrack their visual work, who emerged from the south London squat party scene and named themselves after the father of surrealism Andre Breton, their approach to creating this album was never going to be predictable. Nor is the end result.

The album’s 11 tracks were fashioned from a field recording. Breton mastermind Roman Rappak obsessively records anything that attracts his attention – a building being demolished, a chance conversation, keys opening doors, the hypnotic motion of a New York subway car – and around these incidental sounds songs are created and a story is formed. His process of Automatic writing gives the songs their randomness and complex, dark layers of twisted beauty. Each listen divulges a little more – be it footsteps on a deserted hospital corridor, the ramblings of a beat poet on acid or the songs of prayer in a Belgian mosque.

It’s about randomness rather than traditional structure. Liberating the songs to take on a life of their own – Breton’s musical interpretation of the surrealist game “The Exquisite Corpse”.  “Other People’s Problems’” seditious sound was formulated at the band’s creative HQ The Lab, a disused bank in Kennington, south London. It’s here that this outfit live, rehearse, and make their music. It’s also where they create their films, videos and remixes with meticulous attention to detail under their cinematic wing BretonLABS.

The band then took their album from the dingy grey urban surrounds of the Lab and relocated to Iceland for a week to record it at Sigur Ros’ studio in Reykjavik, which added yet another dimension to its sound. The final task was the addition of brass and strings. Breton sent some basic parts to German composer and personal hero Hauschka in Berlin, who recorded them with an orchestra of violinists, cellists and trumpet players to create an incredible piece of music worthy of a film score. He sent back the parts to Breton who then chopped up and sampled them into select album tracks – so the classical was redefined. And with that the album finally reached the end of its own game of “The Exquisite Corpse”.

NEW VIDEO FROM BIG DEAL: TALK

Kacey Underwood and Brit Alice Costelloe aka Big Deal just released a new video for “Talk”, off their most recent album Lights Out.  Directed by the talented, Brooklyn director Yoonha Park (Washed Out, Deerhoof and Beach House) the video  captures the bands innate ability to tap into the innocence, insecurity, wonder and (sometimes unrequited) love and lust of relationships. With a combination of sparse interweaving lo-fi guitars, emotive lyrics, set against the fuzzed out chords of an electric guitar and the tones of a boy / girl vocal create a sound that is sweet and seductive. Understated and discreet, it feels like a love note passed between classes.

Big Deal will be coming to the US in March for SXSW, including two special shows in New York and a show in Los Angeles, marking the band’s live debut in the US.

NEW VIDEO FROM THE WAR ON DRUGS: BROTHERS

The War On Drugs are excited to share the brand new video for the dylan-esc track “Brothers,” one of the many highlights off their stellar Slave Ambient. Following the more kaleidoscopic videos for “Baby Missiles” and “Come to the City,” the “Brothers” video, definitely takes a different approach with its bleak western narrative. Here’s what the director team of Brewer, a pair of brothers (Ben and Alex), had to say about the video:

“We kept picturing it as the soundtrack to a dark western like Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid or Unforgiven. That is where the deranged T.V cowboy character came from. We wanted the video to feel like the most exciting five minutes taken out of a longer movie. The biggest challenge in the filming was how to make the old cowboy (played by David Weindel) seem threatening, and how to make the nurse (played by Tallie Medel) seem like she was dealing with the situation the way a normal person might really handle such a nightmare.”

The War On Drugs’ “Come to the City” 7-inch single is available this week on Secretly Canadian. Listen to the b-side, “Don’t Fear The Ghost”

NEW MUSIC FROM HUSBAND: SLOW MOTION

Husband is Gianlorenzo (Buzz Aldrin) and Chiara from Bologna.  Offsetting the driving Italo-pop dronetronica rhythms of their track “Slow Motion” is this strangely uneasy video filmed and edited by Ailien Reyes, which features the duo’s shared love of volcanoes.

NEW VIDEO FROM A PLACE TO BURY STRANGERS: SO FAR AWAY

A Place To Bury Strangers have just premiered the new video for their song “So Far Away”, created by band member Oliver Ackermann using a collage of his own photos. Using the iPhone application Hipstamatic, Ackermann got the idea after importing some photos from his phone to his computer & watching them flash in quick succession across the screen: “The pictures are all take with Ina’s 1969 Film with the iPhone application Hipstamatic. I did this because it is one of the most common ways photos are taken and shared at this moment in time. The photos were all taken since our van was stolen in Italy. Once I started importing photos and assembling them then I realized with a couple of the cool driving sequences that I shot I should shoot some things in an animation style. The story in the video is personal and reflective of our lives over the past year or so.”
A Place To Bury Strangers have also announced they will tour with The Joy Formidable across the US this Spring. The bands will start on the west coast with dates in San Francisco and LA before heading across the Midwest through to the East Coast & wrapping it up with dates in Montreal and Toronto. A full list with details is below. The dates will follow the release of their Onwards To The Wall EP, which is out on February 7 on Dead Oceans. The EP contains 5 brand new, face-melting tracks that explore the limits of loud.
